In recent days Matt Powell and Kent Hovind have been teaming up to promote the idea that short term comets are proof of a young earth/universe.

So, I thought I would prepare this article to reflect my simple approach to addressing the problem and, I think, showing where their efforts are rather lame and do not do what they think they do.

This will be my open challenge to Kent Hovind and Matt Powell to engage me in completing the Exercise and discussing their problem with the Oort Cloud issue as there is time and interest.

Come out, come out; Matt Powell and/or Kent Hovind!

The Oort Cloud 101 Critical Thinking Exercise

The Argument

Major Premise:
IF (p) the universe is more than a few thousand years old, and no comets survive more than a few thousand years, THEN (q) our comets must be supplied from a source that is more than a few thousand years old.
Minor Premise:
(p) The universe is more than a few thousand years old, and no comets survive more than a few thousand years.
Conclusion:
(q) Our comets must be supplied from a source that is more than a few thousand years old.

The Exercise
