Kent Hovind did not seem to me to be a good match for the La Vergne, TN community or the Miracle Baptist Church in particular, so I tried to find out the story behind the event.  I did not have much success, but, after other parties failed to be responsive, Mike Slinker, head deacon, happened to contact me and we had the following exchange which seemed worthy of archiving.
.

The following exchange took place on November 3, 2018 and November 4, 2018.

.

From: Mike Slinker

.
I’d like to invite you to view and provide feedback on MBC’s first PodCast
.
Hoping to launch it by end of next week.
.

From: Robert Baty

.
OK! What can you tell me about how it is that Kent Hovind was able to schedule a series of appearances at MBC (Miracle Baptist Church of La Vergne, TN)? Kent does not strike me as someone MBC would want to be seen promoting.
.

From: Mike Slinker

.
We have someone that knows him personally. It is my understanding that Kent Hovind is a sinner (like me) who was saved by God’s grace.
.

From: Robert Baty

.
Thanks, but that doesn’t really address the issues. It’s typical of those that don’t seem to care much that Kent is an UNrepentant felon who sent his first wife to prison, manipulated her into divorcing him, married his girlfriend Mary Tocco who couldn’t stand him a year, and then, without benefit of a civil, on-file, legal divorce, took up with Cindi Lincoln, “friends with benefits”.
,

Will it remain a secret who gets the local credit for bringing Kent into your community for his performances?

.

Some can handle it. Some can’t.

.

.

From: Mike Slinker

.
Are you local in the Rutherford County community?
.

From: Robert Baty

.
No, I am in Colorado and I have been covering the Hovind Story for years. Kent doesn’t like me much and has refused to face me and deal openly and honestly with his false legal narrative and related problems. If he stays on script in La Vergne, you will probably hear him promote his false legal narrative as he has in the promotion for the event.
.

From: Mike Slinker

.
Just curious, when you say false narrative, is it related to the actual subject he is speaking on (creation vs evolution)?
.

From: Robert Baty

.

It has been my observation that wherever Kent goes, one way or another, he promotes his false legal narrative, as he already has in the promotion for the event at MBC.

.

See what is posted in the promotion at the following link regarding his incarceration. It’s part of his false legal narrative and UNrepentant character regarding his criminal history and related matters.

.

.

Of course, you can browse the over 300 articles I have on my website for more specifics. That is at:

http://kehvrlb.com/a-chronological-list-of-articles-on-this-site

.

From: Mike Slinker

.
Just so I understand correctly — you do not deny the message he shares between the difference on creation vs evolution.
.

From: Robert Baty

.

Oh no, Kent and I have a lot of “theological” differences. I don’t suppose he has any interest in dealing with anything substantive to do with those. He has often made fun of some of my beliefs.

.

As far as young-earth creation-science is concerned, Kent has already conceded the scientific debate (reference available upon request). I have a FaceBook page for that, and Kent has never indicated any interest in successfully completing my Creationism 101 Critical Thinking Exercise which would demonstrate further how it is that he and his have lost the scientific and legal battles over his position (i.e., it’s theology and not science).

.

https://www.facebook.com/Creationism-101-Critical-Thinking-Exercise-1423957481165720/

.

From: Mike Slinker

.
Would you consider yourself an atheist or identify with their belief? I opened the site and seen a reference to atheism. Did I perhaps see that incorrectly?
.

From: Robert Baty

.

No, I am not an atheist.

.

Consider this article:

.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/peterjreilly/2018/05/18/a-christian-not-an-atheist-sparked-lawsuit-on-clergy-tax-free-housing-allowances/#29b6517a4710

.

I’ve worked with Peter J. Reilly, the Forbes contributor on that article, for several years. I got him interested in both the Hovind & FFRF case indicated in the article, and he has probably published over 100 articles on Forbes.com on those 2 issues alone.

.

From: Mike Slinker

.
Ok, it was the reference from “friendlyatheist.patheos.com that made me inquire. I am of the belief that a Christian who is off track with their relationship with the Lord can do a lot of damage in their testimony — more damage than an actual atheist since a Christian  knows the truth. I have personally found in my walk through life that half-truth can be more dangerous than a total lie. Revelation 3:16 has highlighted things in my own life.
.

From: Robert Baty

.
I’ve been alleged to be an atheist many times over the years; usually from people that aren’t paying close attention or, in effect, think people that don’t agree with them must be atheists. I’ve been accused of worse. Some of Kent’s people have tended to accuse those like me who dare to challenge Kent pedophiles. Have you heard about Kent’s association with Chris Jones, who some consider a convicted pedophile. Kent tried to get Billy Summers, a member of my FaceBook Hovind group, to give Chris air time on his YouTube channel so he could promote his own false legal narrative like Kent has.
.

From: Mike Slinker

.
From a biblical perspective, what would you consider yourself to be in regards to your relationship with Jesus?
.

From: Robert Baty

.
A child of God.
.
I do not, however, wish to get sidetracked into theological issues unless there be some fundamental matter in dispute that you may wish to publicly address.
.
In Kent’s recent event in Wichita, the church there advised me that it was not sponsoring Kent but that someone, some organization, simply arranged to use their facility.
.
That is not unusual for Kent, but it is not always made know to the public how that works.
.
And so it was I made inquiry as to what is going on with all of that as to Kent’s appearance at your church. Cathy Kirkland wouldn’t tell me and referred me to Spencer Ezell who is listed as the contact person on the promotion. Spencer has not answered my inquiry.
.
Even now, you did not give any details as to who arranged for Kent to appear at your church and how all of that might have been accomplished.
.
We can deal with those details or not.
.
It’s up to you and/or others able and willing to do so.
.
I am just asking as part of my continuing effort to cover the Hovind Story and understand when churches might actually be promoting Kent and when they are not, and all of that.
.

From: Mike Slinker

Our Pastor will be setting up a brand new Podcast this week with the help and idea of one of our college students at church. Kent Hovind will be the first guest that he interviews and following the Podcast, you and I will have an opportunity to review his statements.

From: Robert Baty

.
Great. It is always nice when the venues have live feeds to Kent’s performances and/or such as you are proposing. I’ll look forward to it. I did not earlier make the connection between when the podcasts were expected to be operational and when Kent was scheduled to be there. Thanks for letting me know. Maybe we’ll have something of mutual interest to talk about based on whatever might be said in his performances in La Vergne.
.

From: Mike Slinker

.
If you are ever in LaVergne TN (around a 25-30 minute drive from Nashville), you are welcome to come by. I currently serve as the Chairman of Deacons at the church and live welcoming new folks
.

From: Robert Baty

 .

Thanks.

.

I don’t get to travel much any more, but I will keep that in mind.

.

One of the “crazies” whose story I cover, or watch and let others cover, is that of Lydia A. Hubbell.

.

She has a house in Antioch, TN. Big event recently was her arrest and she is currently still in jail waiting action on her case next week and the possibility she can raise bail and get out. I won’t bore you with the details.

.

She and her people have a tendency to misrepresent her case. Me and my people do a better job but what we do is not so easy to find.

.

Lydia A. Hubbell’s main page is at:

.

https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100011221786486

.

Lydia’s story, basically, is that she has mental problems, played the harlot and then got into a custody fight with the resulting child’s father, and it’s been going on for years.

.

Take it for what it’s worth. Being somewhat local to you, you might want to at least take a peek and look for other local news on the story if it makes any news venues.

.

From: Mike Slinker

.

Good morning, Robert. One more quick curiosity question: Of the 327 million + people in the United States, what is your reasoning to be specifically known as Kent Hovind’s worst nightmare? Thanks, Mike

.

From: Robert Baty

.

I guess you really don’t know Kent Hovind that well.

.

That’s OK.
That’s part of why I do what I do.

.

A few months ago Kent came out with a video autobiography and it was entitled, “Kent Hovind, The Atheists’ Worst Nightmare”.

.

I figured I could use that as well as Kent, though mine is more accurate.

.

I think Kent’s video is kind of hard to find now. As I recall, it was produced by Theo, one of Kent’s former close associates and IT guys. That’s a whole ‘nother story.

.

Theo and Kent split and Theo now has his own operations and his channel is at:

.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCt0V1HPVUzXviy-iOlgrCFw/videos

.

From: Mike Slinker

.

So help me understand your platform’s ultimate goal since there are tons of people around the world who produce videos, etc… I’m still having difficulty since you are a child of God and have a relationship with Jesus, linking the reason why you specifically chose Kent Hovind? Also, if his message was against atheism, is your goal to provide a different guidance to people versus the message of his statements and beliefs on that topic? Last question, for right now: When you say you are a child of God, this comes with an understanding that you indeed have a relationship with Jesus. Can you kindly share your testimony on how and when you were saved? Thanks, Mike

.

From: Robert Baty

.

For what it’s worth, in reference to your “salvation” inquiry, it is the case that my people and the Baptists have a long history of disputing that question.

.

Some time ago, one of Kent’s apologists whom I was dealing with invited a discussion of that matter, and so I obliged. You can review my discussion with him in my YAHOO! at the following links (Parts 1-9):

.

From: Mike Slinker

.

I spoke with our Pastor and he is open to discuss your thoughts as well (maybe another Podcast Session)?

.

From: Robert Baty

,

Sure, I’m game.
.
After Kent Hovind popped off about me during his appearance with Bernie Dehler (YouTube “SecHummer”), Bernie invited me to discuss Kent’s legal problems and false legal narrative.
.
I think you will have a hard time finding any of Kent’s religious kind that have allowed such a presentation; though I have asked numerous times in advance of Kent’s appearances and/or after. We’ll see if your pastor can make it happen, if y’all go through with hosting Kent.
.
Here’s the link to Bernie’s interview with me about that. Bernie also has a separate video right after that one where I discuss my Atheism 101 Critical Thinking Exercise (Bernie is an atheist).

Update November 8, 2018

From Robert Baty to Mike Slinker

Spencer still has not responded to my inquiries but I have noticed that he continues to “lead the charge” as it were in welcoming Kent Hovind to La Vergne.
.
As I noted earlier, your church’s promotion of Kent Hovind’s visit includes the promotion of his false legal narrative including a specific reference to the following video which has been quite popular amongst his anti-government fellows:
.
.
One of my group members, in the long ago, set up her own website to present information on the Hovind case. The following link presents a rebuttal of sorts to the “20” claims made in your pro-Hovind promotion:
.
.
You might find it of some interest. You seem to me to be very unlike Kent Hovind when it comes to his sovereign citizen, anti-government theology.

 Update November 9, 2018

Update November 11, 2018

Cathy Kirkland, the preacher’s wife, decided to pick up our conversation where it left off and the following exchange has just taken place.

From Cathy Kirkland

Mr Baty,

.

I do not know what was or what made it “under the umbrella of repentance or forgiveness”, I only can speak to my own eyes and heart in the moment. I can say, God is using Dr. Hovind mightly.

.

He is a confident soul winner and encourager of stagnant Christians.

.

I pray that the weapons being formed against him and those on a mission, will not be allowed to continue.

.

May God grant you peace in letting Him be God and correct any mistakes He feels need to be corrected in the life of ALL of us. Blessings to you and yours.

.

When your name was brought up at lunch, not one unkind word was uttered about you.

.

My 8 year old and all our children and adults have been amazing blessed by Dr. Hovind. I would recommend him highly.

.

Thank you for your inquiry.

I reserved my comments and judgements until I met the man for myself.

.

I was not ignoring you, but waiting to observe with wisdom.

.

Dr. Cathy Kirkland,

.

From Robert Baty

Thank you for that feedback but it seems somewhat typical and hypocritical and evasive of the important public issues that Kent refuses to adequately deal with.

.

Did Kent tell you how many times he has called me a “moron” and accused me falsely.

.

Did you meet Cindi Lincoln?

Did Kent tell you he is still married to Mary Tocco?

.

So many issues, and you don’t seem to have a clue, but I appreciate your taking the time to respond.

From Cathy Kirkland

Like I said, NO slander on that side.

.

Only on one side so far.

.

Blessings to your peace.

.

From Robert Baty

Shame on you, Cathy.

Shame on you!

.

There is no slander coming from my side, or libel.

.

It’s also rather cowardly of you to speak of such things while refusing to actually provide me with any details as to what might have been said about me and while you and yours continue to refuse to answer legitimate questions about Kent’s appearance.

.

I do, however, thank you for the demonstration.

“I was preaching 900 times a year and the IRS and a SWAT Team came to my house back in 2006 and said you are under arrest. I said, for what? For structuring. I said I don’t even know what that is. They said, 5 years ago you took money out of your bank account in amounts less that $10,000. Yeah, that’s our church money, we’re buying church property and building a bunch of stuff. They used drug laws to arrest me. I’ve never taken drugs in my life… They arrested me under drug laws, put me in prison for 10 years, for no law broken at all. There’s a website about it; KentHovindIsInnocent.com . It’s down right now but coming back up in the next couple of days. I guy investigated my case for 15 months. He said, Kent, you did nothing wrong. I said, I know. They just wanted to shut you up….blah, blah, blah.”

Update November 15, 2018

From Robert Baty to Mike Slinker

.

No surprise I guess.
.
Once a preacher promotes Kent Hovind and his false legal narrative, there is little hope that he will ever take part in setting the record straight.
.
Todd Kirkland and Cathy Kirkland are the latest examples.
.
Maybe that will change.
Maybe not.

No Change Indicated Yet!
